Bla.bla.bla...

i like the month of February.
*
we have gotten SO MUCH snow and cooooold weather this year. i'm liking that too.
*
i read an article about how houseplants clean the toxins out of the air in your home (which is 12x more polluted than air outside!) then i googled the subject...and that was that. i headed to home depot to pick up some plants. They were clearancing in order to get ready for spring shipments, so I scored two plants for $0.99! Two seemed like a manageable beginning.
*
if you look really closely at this picture you can see that i have smeared plain yogurt on the outside of the pot. Martha Stewart said this would help it turn into a nice aged and mossy planter. i hope so. otherwise...ewwww.
*
I get (mostly) gift cards for Christmas. I really really like that. Because lately, Christmas morning is mostly about my kids...and it also means that the months of January and February are spent cashing my cards in. Keeps the winter doldrums away.
*
i simultaneously feel like my life is moving really fast and really slow. I'm not sure I can explain that one except to say there are things I look forward to that seem to always be up ahead, and things I love so much (like my sweet children and the pace of our family life) that seem to be flying by.
*
the past few months I have been thinking about the Holy Ghost. a lot. There is so much to learn. Most recently there is one line (from lds.org) that keeps going through my mind. In reference to the Holy Spirit being the only power that can help us receive a sure testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, it says,
*
"His communication to our spirit carries far more certainty than any communications we can receive through our natural senses."
*
at first glance it seems so very straightforward.
and when you think about the Spirit's many many roles...
it's really a beautiful gift.

I enjoy your thoughts! And I never knew that about plants (or our air!) - not sure if I can keep them alive though.

Thanks for the comments! Feeling good now as I'm moving into my second trimester. It's funny - when I go to the grocery store now I tend to study the produce trying to size up the baby! :) It's going to be a fun adventure!

Thanks for this post Tara-not only for the fab plant facts (that I too will be copying) =) but also for the HG thoughts. I have needed a really great topic to study out and I think I've just found it. Thanks for always inspiring!

I recently saw a TED video about the positive benefits of indoor plants. I've been meaning to pick up a few more myself. I may have to check out Home Depot myself.

I LOVE your idea board! Too great! The plant is the perfect touch - I hope it lives!

Also, I can't believe I didn't comment on your last post. I guess I thought about what i wanted to say, and then never wrote it! I LOVE that you hubby knows your style enough to find treasure in trash. I love each one. I also love things with a story - I wish we could flea market together.

So the last comment was mine, in case you were wondering.

i've heard the idea of aging the pot using yogurt...keep us posted on that one. love you plant too...score!! your idea board is such nice eye candy. i have binders with sleeves that have all my wishful thinking and ideas in. when i get magazines, i spend more time looking at the pictures and ideas than reading them. love it :)

ok. i love all of your free treasures. my sisters and i call them "treasures." i swear-people around here only have junk-literally. you inspire me to do cool things....i get a certain crazy weird satisfaction by saying "i did this myself," or "it only cost me $1." as if the people who were listening actually cared-or weren't weirded out by my items from goodwill or other's trash. to me, though, it's awesome and brag-worthy. i wish i could do more cheap things. our goodwill is really trashy...and treasures are far inbetween. so here's to tara (raise your glasses) for always having a brag-worthy crafty treasure. who is my inspiration for almost everything i do(shouldhave called you for my paint drama) i seriously miss you and miss our conversations. i treasured them in kc. when i would talk about you-jason would just know...i miss ya !!! you are amazing.

and...our dressar was a knock-off of the z-gallerie one. the z-gallerie one is really modern and i liked it--but it was too shiny. i found this one at downeast home (it's the downeast store that does modest "mormon" clothing. they also have a home store with stuff from pottery barn, zgallerie, restoration hard...etc...it's like an outlet.) but they also make furniture similar to those stores as well. i got the dressar for like 200something $$. and it looks old. i love it and am tickled that you did too.!

We have slowly been adding more house plants for the past year. Our Lowe's has a 100% satisfaction guarantee so if they ever die, just bring it back for a full refund. You should check yours.

My jaw dropped when you explained the "yogurt" around the planter because i was going to write you an email after seeing the photo asking you how you get your planter to look all aged like that! It obviously works.

I really, really, really love your blog Tara. Have I told you that lately? Post more (if you can). I'm always inspired.
