As I sit here writing this post 2 full days after July 4th...there are fireworks exploding outside. it's 11 pm. i'm dead serious.

I'm not gonna lie. The weather this weekend was the pits. Saturday and Sunday were full of heavy clouds and rain. Big bummer for all those Independence day plans. In fact, Sunday night at the peak-9:30-boom-time...it was pouring. But don't worry, it didn't stop Kansas Citians. We were named 3rd most patriotic city by Men's Health Magazine. (ha!) Of course one of the criteria they used to determine this important status was the sale of fireworks and US flags. I'll vouch for the firework sales. Those colorful tents pop up in vacant lots every year at the end of June. (who am I kidding...more like the end of May!) I have awesome memories of going with my dad to these overcrowded tents and spending a silly amount of money on fireworks. So Dave and I took the kids this year. I planned a mini lesson complete with flag facts and coloring. It was cute and fun, but let's be honest...sparklers, tanks, smoke bombs and snappers totally won out.

I haven't seen one fireworks tent here in my city this year. I didn't realize how many KC had until I had none!
Glad you had a fun one...with a 'little' rain.

I can't really imagine having fireworks legal! How funny...this crazy July weather is confusing. But, I won't lie, there is something I love about cuddling up in comfty clothes in the middle of a summer storm.

I had a dream a few nights ago that we were moving to Kansas City. I woke up wishing I could call you!

our street sounded as if we were in the midst of a full-on battle. no joke. it was fun for, oh, 30 minutes, but then it just got ridiculous. especially when i heard more LAST NIGHT. i do love July 4th, though!

You mean you didn't put the kids to bed before the fireworks started like we did? (they watched the show from their bedroom windows) Pathetic? Maybe, but it's a zoo here with the extras and that many little hands with explosive scared us silly.

I like your way better. You rule.

We had a total of 7 fireworks stands within a quarter mile radius. Something about anything goes on the county line I guess.
I love that your children are still so excited about the sparklers even though its full on day light out. Sparklers never get old.
You are such a fun mom!

Hilarious! Kansas City- who knew?!

I have to admit with the exception of sparklers I have never bought fireworks. Maybe next year I'll try out one of the circus tent stands =)

darnit, bad weather! it was kind of chilly where we were on the 4th, but no rain. and yes, nothing beats sparklers.

as a side note, i find it funny that i am all about the fireworks on the 4th, but when i hear them the next day i'm like, "what the?! you're going to wake up my kids!" i'm such an old lady. :)

Okay, I live in DC (the nations capital for crying out loud), and it doesn't even COMPARE to the amount of fireworks that were set off in Kansas City. Just sayin'. Well-deserved reputation.
